Increasing the capacity of families to effectively care for their children.

New Horizons Youth Service Bureau is one of United Way’s oldest recipients.  In addition to their invaluable help, several programs receive funding from contracts obtained through grants.  The Counseling Center depends heavily on United Way funding.

Pathways is funded through three separate contracts, with slightly different requirements from each, although the program is consistently an evidence-based, in-home Family Preservation service.  Funding sources for this program include, Department of Children and Family Services. Office of Juvenile Services, and Mental Health Services through Florida Parishes Human Services Authority.

MST is funded through Medicaid, although it could also be provided with funding from other sources, as well.

Like all small nonprofit agencies, the Youth Service Bureau could not run without public support and donations from local churches, organizations and individuals.  Each year we receive donated items to meet our clients’ needs, including clothing, household items, furniture, appliances, food, therapy supplies and Christmas gifts.  These items make a huge difference for our clients, and we are fortunate to have such generosity in our community to help fill their never ending needs.

Monetary donations are also vital to the growth and stability of the YSB.  Without them we would not be able to provide our clients with the quality of services they receive.  With so many in-home programs, our travel expenses are tremendous, in addition to our desire to maintain a staff with such outstanding credentials and expertise.

The Youth Service Bureau hosts several fundraising initiatives each year, and are constantly on the look-out for new, innovative ways to increase the services we are able to provide.  In addition to occasional one-time fundraising campaigns, we offer the following yearly opportunities for those who would like to contribute to the Youth Service Bureau:

100-4-100 -   100 days before the end of each year (Sept. 23), we launch a campaign to gain 100 commitments in 100 days from 100 individuals to donate $100 each to the Youth Service Bureau.  During its first year, our goal was more than half met, and we hope to meet the goal next year.

Strawberry Festival The Youth Service Bureau’s booth at the Strawberry Festival each  April is a familiar sight to festival-goers who enjoy the Crawfish Pies we sell.  Last year we added Nachos ‘n Cheese and Dill Pickles, both with success.  This fundraising event is now in its 27th year, and has helped the agency considerably.
